Internet Trolls vs Corona Virus Response

It seems like quarantine time got the best of some people. Not once but twice in the past few days internet trolls and hackers, who were against the Corona Virus Response(CVR), attacked both a rat out service, and also managed to dox WHO, the Gates foundation, and other people involved in CVR.

On April 18, 2020, Bill De Blasio sent out a tweet, where he talks about social distancing. In his speech, on twitter, he mentioned a new service in place to help enforce social distancing. The mayor of NYC set up a hot line, 311-692, to help the authorities know who breaking quarantine rules was. It wasn’t long after, people started trolling this hot line and it’s not hard to see why, when this is reminiscent of darker times (racist past and Nazi Germany.) Many people did their part, in different ways. Some people sent pictures of them sent photos of their junk, some people sent memes, including Hitler memes, and some people even sent picture of Bill De Blasio breaking his own rules. Three days later the service was recalled.

Some people decided to do something a little more intense. A hacker managed to release almost 25,000 email addresses and passwords allegedly belonging to the National Institutes of Health, the World Health Organization, the Gates Foundation and other groups involved with CVR. They also managed to hack the Wuhan facility, where this all began. Whether or not you agree with how moral, and legal this all might seem, this does show how much more powerful, the trolling scene became, with everyone having time off.
